The Exaltation of the Holy Cross in a Russian icon

The image shows a bishop raising the cross before saints and the faithful. The composition depicts the gesture that gives the feast its name and may appeal to someone who appreciates icons from the Eastern tradition. Choose it to recall a community celebration and explain, when giving the gift, the personal connection that led you to this image.

The feast draws attention to Christ’s love expressed in his Passion and the Christian hope in the resurrection. Its history is linked with Jerusalem and the veneration of the cross after the dedication of the churches associated with Calvary and the tomb. Raising the cross to show it to the faithful gives visible expression to that memory, present in the icon chosen for the design.

The feast’s name and 14 September

The mug carries the name Exaltation of the Holy Cross and the 14 September commemoration. The text identifies the feast alongside the scene that represents it. Choose it for that day or as a keepsake for someone connected with a church, a confraternity or a community that celebrates this devotion.
