Blessed Jordan of Saxony mug

The Blessed Jordan of Saxony mug is a gift for someone who shares Dominican spirituality or finds inspiration in a life dedicated to study and preaching. His image in the black-and-white habit accompanies a reverse that brings together his name, details of his life and the 13 February commemoration.

Blessed Jordan of Saxony mug: remembering a Dominican story

Jordan studied in Paris and met Saint Dominic there. He entered the Order of Preachers in 1220 and went on to succeed its founder as Master of the Order. During his service, he encouraged education and missions and attracted students and teachers who found in Dominican life a way to unite knowledge and faith.

His writings include one of the earliest biographies of Saint Dominic. His spiritual letters to Diana d'Andalò are also preserved, offering an insight into a personal aspect of his guidance. This relationship between study, preaching and care for people provides a reason to give the mug to someone connected with this tradition.

An image and a reminder for 13 February

The Blessed Jordan of Saxony mug shows a medallion painting of him in his Dominican habit. The other side gives Borgberge Castle as his birthplace and his death in 1237 off the coast of Palestine, near Ptolemais. Jordan died in a shipwreck while returning from the Holy Land.
