Saint Auguste Chapdelaine mug
The Saint Auguste Chapdelaine mug recalls a priest of the Paris Foreign Missions who carried out his mission in China. It is a gift for someone who shares this devotion, celebrates the name Augustus or is interested in the stories of people who took their faith far from their homeland.
Saint Auguste Chapdelaine mug, from Normandy to China
Auguste was born in 1814 in La Métairie, in La Rochelle-Normande. After working in agriculture as a young man and studying at seminary, he was ordained a priest and served for several years as a curate in France. Joining the Foreign Missions opened a new chapter devoted to preparing for service in Asia.
The journey and learning the language formed part of this path. In China, he cared for Christian communities and experienced arrests before his death in 1856. His canonisation took place on 1 October 2000. The saint's story offers a reason to talk about missionary vocation and the memory of martyrs.
Portrait and details of his life
