Blessed Piedad de la Cruz Ortiz Real mug

The Blessed Piedad de la Cruz mug recalls the founder of the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart through an image of Bocairent, her birthplace. It can be a gift for someone connected with her congregation, Alcantarilla or the educational and caring work that shaped her life.

Blessed Piedad de la Cruz mug with a view of Bocairent

The photograph shows the houses and church tower among hills. It is an image of the Valencian town where Tomasa Ortiz Real was born, before taking the religious name Piedad de la Cruz. The landscape places her origins and gives the gift a specific reference to her story.

Her service was connected with children, sick people and older people. After different experiences of religious life, she founded the institute of the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Alcantarilla in 1890. Christian education and everyday care for people in poverty were united in the community's mission.

Name and milestones of a life of service

The Blessed Piedad de la Cruz mug bears her full name on the reverse, her birth in Bocairente on 12 November 1842 and her death in Alcantarilla on 26 February 1916. It also includes her beatification, celebrated in Rome on 21 March 2004. These references accompany the photograph of her birthplace.

You can give it as a thank you to someone connected with one of her communities or to share a family devotion. The photograph of her birthplace and the details on the other side help explain why you chose this figure and her connection with the recipient. A few personal words can accompany that explanation.
