The solemnity recalls the announcement of Jesus's birth and the beginning of the Incarnation. The account presents Mary listening, asking questions and responding to the message. The celebration is linked to Christmas, nine months later in the calendar, and forms part of Christian remembrance also expressed through prayers such as the Angelus.
