The miniature of the archbishop accompanies his name and details on the reverse. A personal message can recall a journey to Canterbury, a shared reading or the conversation that led you to choose this figure.

A miniature of Saint Thomas Becket as archbishop

The depiction shows the saint with a mitre, red mantle and cross-staff, raising his right hand. The image may appeal to someone who appreciates religious miniatures and their episcopal attributes. The text on the other side identifies the archbishop and connects the painting with the history you want to share when dedicating the gift.

Becket was chancellor and a close associate of Henry II before taking the see of Canterbury. The later conflict between them became associated with disputes over the authority of the monarchy and the Church. His life brought together experience of court, administration and ecclesiastical responsibilities. This background can give meaning to a gift for someone interested in the relationships between religion, law and power in medieval England.

London and Canterbury on the reverse

The mug includes his name, London as his birthplace and Canterbury as his place of death. His canonisation in 1173 and the commemoration on 29 December complete the prepared text. These references accompany the miniature to identify the saint whose memory you have chosen to share.

Before ordering, you can rotate the composition in the 3D viewer to examine the image and text from different angles.
