The image comes from a representation published in the nineteenth century and accompanies a reverse with his name, his origins in Tivoli and details that help place his memory.

Saint Simplicius mug and the memory of a time of change

Simplicius belonged to the Roman clergy before taking up the papacy. His service coincided with major political and religious changes, including the deposition of Romulus Augustulus in 476. In this context, he devoted attention to the unity of the Church, teaching and the needs of people in distress.

His letters addressed specific pastoral matters, such as ordinations and the distribution of offerings to support the clergy, buildings, poor people and pilgrims. This concern for community life offers a way to approach his story beyond the name that appears in the calendar. You can share that part of his memory when explaining why you chose him.

A historical image for a personal devotion

The Saint Simplicius mug uses a chromolithograph with a halo and cloak against a golden background, included in a publication of papal portraits and biographies from 1879. The reverse gives Tivoli as his birthplace, his death in 483 and the 2 March commemoration followed by this design.

You can choose it as a name day gift or for someone interested in the history of the popes. We print the design by sublimation. Choose the printed text language in the customiser and check it in the preview.
