The panel painting and the name on the reverse dedicate the reminder to this witness of the resurrection. Accompany it with a reading from the Acts of the Apostles or your own words about why you chose him for the recipient.

A panel painting of the apostle

The saint is depicted with a beard, a pink mantle and a golden halo, holding a green book. The work comes from Simone Martini's workshop. Its painterly character offers a reference for someone who appreciates religious art and wishes to choose a gift for the image as well as the recipient's connection with Matthias's name.

Acts recounts his joining the Twelve after the ascension and before Pentecost. The community put forward two candidates, prayed and cast lots; the result pointed to Matthias. The account stresses that he had to have accompanied Jesus's journey and share the witness of his resurrection. This scene gives the gift meaning for someone reading the Bible or taking part in a Christian community.

His name and commemoration on the reverse

The reverse carries his name and 14 May commemoration, linking the painting with this celebration and identifying the figure honoured by the gift.
