The chosen painting accompanies the group’s name and commemoration on the reverse. A personal message can explain why you thought of this celebration for the recipient and how it connects with the story you want to share.

A narrative painting of the Holy Innocents

The depiction shows mothers trying to protect their children during the massacre at Bethlehem. The scene corresponds to a violent episode in Matthew’s account and should be viewed when choosing the gift. It may interest someone who appreciates paintings on biblical themes and knows the connection between this remembrance and the days following Christmas.

The Gospel of Matthew recounts Herod’s decision to pursue the children as he seeks to kill Jesus. The celebration thus brings together the birth narrative and the grief of families suffering violence. This background can help you share the image’s religious meaning and explain the reason behind your choice.

The group’s name on the reverse

The mug carries the name Holy Innocents and the commemoration on 28 December.
